The Commonwealth has hailed acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu,  for his uncommon courage in fighting corruption in Nigeria.

The Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Ms. Patricia Scotland, gave the commendation in a July 6 letter to the acting EFCC chair.

Scotland  who was in Nigeria in May to attend the 8th  Conference of the Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies of Commonwealth Africa, Magu has recorded ground breaking achievements for the betterment of Nigeria.

“I would like to thank you for your diligent, innovative and fearless leadership of the Commission. The initiatives that you and colleagues at the Commission undertake are reaping immediate, ground-breaking results for the betterment of Nigeria, the continent and wider world’, she said.

The Commonwealth scribe also pledged the organisation’s continued support and assistance to the EFCC.

“ As you so eloquently alluded to in your remarks at the opening of the Commission’s new headquarters, the fight against corruption requires our continued commitment, perseverance and great fortitude. Rest assured that the Commonwealth Secretariat is committed to continuing to work with and support the Commission and colleagues in Nigeria in the fight against corruption”,she stated.

Scotland also thanked the EFCC boss for the honour done to her for witnessing the commissioning of EFCC new head office building by President Muhammadu Buhari.
