Military’s ground, air bombardment obliterate Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Muguno
- Impressed Buratai hails troops
A coordinated ground and air assault by troops of Operation Lafiya Dole in North East has killed over 20 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist elements who were advancing in Munguno, Borno state Saturday, 13 June, 2020.
The Coordinator of Defence Media Operations (DMO), Maj-Gen. John Enenche, in a statement on Sunday, said the Ground troops of Sector 3 and Air Task Force Operation Lafiya Dole successfully repelled attack on Monguno town and inflicted heavy casualties on Boko Haram /Islamic State of West Africa terrorists who attempted to breach Munguno Town in Borno State on Saturday, 13 June 2020. Nunguno is the home town of the National Security Adviser to President Buhari, Maj Gen Mungonu (rtd).
“During the combined brave Sector 3 counter attack and precise ISR and munition delivery by the Air Task Force, 20 Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters were neutralized and 4 of their gun trucks destroyed. The troops also captured some of the terrorists and their equipment,” Enenche said.
“The High Command of the Armed Forces of Nigeria commends the Land component and Air Task Force of Operation LAFIYA DOLE for the dexterity and professionalism exhibited during this operation. The troops are further encouraged to remain resolute and decisive in their ground and air offensives in the theatre,” he added.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen Tukur Yusufu Buratai has subsquently commended the officers and men of the Army Super Camp, Monguno for their resilience and bravery in holding and dealing with the members of the BHT/ISWAP group that attacked Monguno town on 13 Jun 20.
Buratai in a statement on Sunday by the Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Col. Sagir Musa, said Buratai was highly impressed by the high number of casualties inflicted on the insurgents and the number of Boko Haram terrorists members and equipment captured or destroyed by the gallant troops with the support of the Air Task Force.
To this end, he urged them to remain firm and resolute in containing the threat finally.
Musa said the COAS further charged the Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole to consistently engage in massive offensive patrols to all identified terrorists’ locations and enclaves within the theatre to ensure the terrorists are denied freedom of action and eliminated.
Buratai also used the opportunity to assure the troops and people of the North West especially Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara States that he will soon be there to ensure that the madness of the bandits is put in proper check.
“He is also impressed with the performance of the troops in the ongoing operations ACCORD and HADARIN DAJI. He urges them to maintain the momentum.
“Details of the BHT equipment captured or destroyed will be released in due course through a press release,” he said.
