ISWAP carryout twin attacks in Borno

On Monday the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, a splinter faction of Boko Haram, ambushed soldiers and killed at least eight along Maiduguri – Damboa Road.

The ambush happened at about 11.30 am at Komala settlement along Maiduguri-Damboa road.

On July 7th ISWAP ambushed a military convoy at Bulabulin village in Damboa about 40km from Maiduguri.

At least 23 soldiers were killed in that attack.

Also around 3:30 pm ISWAP also conducted another attack along Maiduguri – Damaturu highway between Jakana and Auno.

Troops from Jakana supported by three Gunships were reported to have conducted a hot pursuit of the insurgents.

On July 6th, a contingent of the Nigerian Army 198 Special Forces Battalion on patrol around 5.30 pm encountered improvised explosive device along the same Maiduguri-Damaturu Road, in Mainok.

The exploding devices killed one officer, Second Lieutenant, Abdullahi Alhassan and injured two soldiers travelling with him.

Late Monday, Troops engaged insurgents around 11. 30 pm in Moromti area, close to 333 Army Artillery barracks on the outskirts of Maiduguri,

Boko Haram’s attacks and military counteroffensive have displaced at least 2.3 million people in the region.
