DHQ Sets Up Board of Enquiry on NDA Attack, Denies Report on Sleeping Officers

The Defence Headquarters on Wednesday said an enquiry has been constituted on the instruction of the Chief of Defense Staff, Gen. Leo Irabor, to ascertain the remote and immediate causes of the Tuesday security breach at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, Nigeria Security Digest has learnt.

In a statement by Director Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Benjamin Olufemi Sawyerr on Wednesday, the Board was established to sanction any personnel found culpable in the attack and also to prevent future. This is as the DHQ also repudiated the report by an online news media that claimed personnel on duty at the NDA’s CCTV Monitoring Room were sleeping when bandits attacked the officers’ residential quarters in the early hours of Tuesday.

Sawyerr described the allegation as untrue and challenged the online newspaper to publish verifiable proof of personnel sleeping during the incident.

The statement read in part: “It is therefore imperative to caution the Cable Online media to guide against being used as a propaganda tool by enemies of our dear country. “The Cable Online should not consciously or unconsciously collaborate with these unscrupulous elements to spread unverified stories on the unfortunate event that occurred at NDA Kaduna while tarnishing the good image and reputation of personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) in the eyes of the civil populace”.

The military assured that search and rescue of the abducted officer is still on and that troops will continue with its operations to ensure all those involved in the dastardly act are brought to justice.

Unknown gunmen reportedly attacked tre prenmisis of Nigeria’s foremost military insitution, Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna on Tuesday, killing two officers and abducting one.
