How Nigerian Army Nabbed Informants, Associates of Soldier-ISWAP Collaborator Who Killed Self

The Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI) have arrested some civilians spying for the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Northeast, Nigeria.

The civilians, before their arrest, worked together with the soldier who killed himself after military troops discovered he was an ISWAP collaborator.

The Army/ISWAP collaborator, Lance Corporal Jibrin, had disappeared for about two days from his duty post and was among the terrorists involved in recent attacks on brothels and beer parlours in Gashua and Geidam in Yobe State.

Tracked through his phone and located at Gashua, the Army base there were informed and the search for him began. On Tuesday morning, L/Cpl Jibrin boarded a bus to Gombe, disguising himself but was identified and nabbed at the checkpoint in Gashua.

He was handcuffed and on interrogation revealed so many things relating to his activities and the people he has been working with. But during his transit to Geidam, Jibrin employed his skills as a weapon instructor, snatched a gun from one of his escorts, over powered the other and blew himself up with the weapon, dying on the spot.

His revelations however led to the arrest of some of his terror-brethren, while many are believed to be among the troops in both Gombe and Geidam Battalions.

Sources who confirmed the arrest of the civilian collaborators also stated that the Army is already probing the circumstances surrounding the suicide committed by the ‘unscrupulous’ soldier while being handcuffed after his arrest.

“I can categorically tell you that other bad elements within our security apparatus are been investigated. Right now we have arrested some civilian collaborators he mentioned in his confession during the initial interrogation.

“We shall unravel the circumstance surrounding the seeming fishy suicide and suspicious activities of other suspects.”
