Attack on Sen Ubah: Igbo think-tank, IBI, outraged, says “We cant continue like this”
A leading Igbo sociocultural organisation, Igbo Bu Igbo (IBI), has condemned in strong terms the attack on its Chairman Board of Trustees and Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah on Sunday which left several people on his entourage dead.
In a statement signed by its Chancellor, Dr Law Mefor and its Publicity Secretary, Jude Ndukwe, the group described the attack as “shocking, unwarranted, unnecessary…a huge setback for the security of Igboland in particular and that of Nigeria in general”, and urged the Federal Government to admit it has failed Nigerians who have been left to the mercy of prowling gunmen.
The group further called on all “our sons and daughters who have taken up arms for one reason or the other both against the State and individuals to sheathe their swords and allow for peaceful resolutions of their grievances.

“No doubt, we are all aggrieved but bloodletting can never be a solution to anything. Killings in Igboland and Nigeria as a whole have to stop.
“We call on the federal government to restore normalcy swiftly and act on workable strategies to stop the needless bloodletting in all parts of the country.
“Whatever the reason behind the assassination attempt on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, it stands unequivocally condemned. He is a champion of the Igbo cause, a philanthropist of immeasurable generousity, an employer of labour and a peace loving man who deserves support and not animosity from whomever.
“While we commiserate with families that lost loved ones in that shocking, unwarranted, unnecessary assassination attempt that has become a huge setback for the security of Igboland in particular and that of Nigeria in general, we uphold Senator Ifeanyi Ubah and his family in prayers, pray God to rest the souls of the departed and urge all stakeholders to work towards the restoration of security in Igboland.
“Nothing short of justice will be enough for the victims!
“We cannot continue like this!”, the statement concluded.
