Police Spokesman says Crisis in South East not Insecurity but ‘Exhibition of Strange Ideology’

The Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Police, Mr Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has provided a sneak peek of the Police understanding of the lingering crisis in south east region and the official attitude towards it. He said the protracted crisis which has destabilized the region leading to the death of hundreds of people, is not insecurity but ‘adoption of strange ideology’.

In series of tweets he put out on Thursday afternoon, the image maker and media minder of the Nigerian Police Force insisted that what is happening in south east cannot be described as security challenge, rather a reflection of strange ideology. According to him, the people need to retrace their steps in order to address the disturbing issues.

“We experience strange things happening in the east, for reasons known to the non-state actors who perpetrate these heinous acts that are clearly reflections of strange ideologies. Attacks on INEC facilities, security facilities especially Police Stations, attacks on politicians and even their kinsmen and family members. Which is deliberate. So, I have never perceived the situations in the east as an act of insecurity, but a clear reflection of adoption or exhibition of strange ideologies that are alien to us, uncultured, unafrican, and evil”.

When challenged by netizens who find his postulations on the debilitating security crisis in the region absurd, he said the crisis is being perpetrated by the indigenes.

“I am sure you know that those perpetrating these acts are from that region? Or are they from the north? Or south? Or south south.? So, we need to retrace our steps and change our psyche and ideologies and have a paradigm shift on the situation in the east”.

“We need to be objective and sincere about what we face. So, we should stop blaming the government or security agencies for deliberate acts. What about the case of those who killed their siblings in a family meeting?”

“Do you expect our policemen or security agents to be in the family meeting with them? Is that an act of insecurity? No, it’s a wrong ideology, bros. Take it or leave it”

“The highest number of attacks against the state, individuals, facilities, and institutions are recorded in the east. Why? Because we allow certain individuals who live fat on crises to capitalize on this ignorance or cajoling to thrive well.

“So u can imagine this?? This is not only evil, criminal, but also barbaric. I am sure these people speak the same language, and share the same colour and cultures. Why? So, to me its reflection of bad and satanic ideologies.

“We need to retrace our steps and backgrounds to address these disturbing issues in the east. Every region in Nig. has one or 2 issues to address, though they vary over space and time. They are, however, surmountable”.

Security crisis in the south east degenerated since the extraordinary rendition of the leader of proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, by the Nigerian Government. To press for his unconditional release especially after an Abuja High Court ruled that he set free, IPOB has declared every Monday as ‘Sit at Home’ in the entire South East region, an action that has attracted severe sanction for defaulters and destroyed the economic activities in the zone.
