Rauf Badamosi Football Championship Kicks Off in Enugu

The 2025 Rauf Badamosi Football Championship commenced in grand style on Saturday, 22 March 2025, at the Rauf Badamosi Stadium, Ibagwa-Aka in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, Enugu State. The opening ceremony featured a colorful parade by all 17 participating teams.
The championship, organized for the 17 local government areas of Enugu State, is solely sponsored by JRB Group in collaboration with Rauf Badamosi Foundation.
The Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Enugu State, Barr. Ike Lloyd Ekweremadu Jnr, who represented Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, performed the ceremonial kick-off. Also in attendance were the Chairman of Igbo-Eze South LGA and Deputy Chairman of ALGON, Enugu State, Barr. Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze, as well as the Chairman of the Nigerian Football Association (NFA) Enugu State, Hon. Barr. Tony Ugwu.

Other dignitaries at the event included Mr. Theophilus Enemali, Head Corporate Communications at JRB Group who represented the Group Managing Director of JRB Group, Dr Jimoh Rauf Badamosi, former Chairmen of Igbo-Eze South LGA; Hon. Fidelis Ezema, Hon. Dominic Ezema, and Hon. Comr. Peter Andy Omeje, alongside stakeholders from across Enugu’s 17 LGAs, traditional rulers, and passionate football supporters from around the state.
The opening match was played between Igboeze South LGA and Igboeze North LGA. It was a super spectacular display of great talents by the Igboeze South players, who whitewashed Igboeze North with 5 goals to 1.
The goals started pouring inside the net from the third minute of the first half with a superlative opener from Ebuka Kingsley, who later had a double after another fifteen minutes.
By the end of the first half, Igboeze South netted four goals, with one goal each from the duo of Chinonso EggKoll and Abubakar Sadiq.
During the second half, Igboeze North was awarded a penalty kick which they failed to convert to a goal. But in the 70th minute, Odinaka Ossai of Igboeze North reduced the tally by scoring a goal.
At the end of the opening match that ended 5-1 in favour of Igboeze South Local Government Area.
The grand finale of the competition is scheduled for April 1, 2025; winner of tournament will smile home with a humongous amount of N35 million naira while second place position will go with 20 million naira and third place 10 million naira.
