LCBC, MNJTF Mourn Buhari, Hail His Legacy of Regional Unity and Security
The Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have paid glowing tributes to Nigeria’s late former President, Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a towering figure whose visionary leadership shaped the collective response to insecurity and humanitarian challenges in the Lake Chad region.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Executive Secretary of LCBC and Head of Mission of the MNJTF, Ambassador Mamman Nuhu, extended heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Nigeria, as well as to the family of the late President. He said the former Nigerian leader’s commitment to peace, regional integration, and sustainable development left an enduring impact on the countries bordering Lake Chad.
“President Buhari was a visionary leader whose unwavering commitment to regional security and development revitalized the Multinational Joint Task Force and strengthened our collective resolve against terrorism,” Ambassador Nuhu stated.

He highlighted Buhari’s instrumental role in the reactivation of the MNJTF, which transformed it into a formidable regional force against Boko Haram and other terrorist groups. Under Buhari’s leadership, Nigeria championed renewed military and diplomatic cooperation among Lake Chad Basin countries, which significantly altered the security dynamics of the region.
Ambassador Nuhu also recalled the late president’s persistent advocacy for the restoration of the Lake Chad, a move that garnered international attention and support for addressing the environmental and socio-economic challenges facing millions of people in the Basin.
“His advocacy for the revitalization of Lake Chad and his call for global solidarity underscored his deep commitment to improving livelihoods and ensuring a resilient future for our communities,” the statement read.
According to the LCBC and MNJTF, Buhari’s legacy transcends Nigeria’s borders, serving as a beacon of regional statesmanship and peacebuilding. “His contributions to regional cooperation and stability will remain a cornerstone of our shared progress,” Nuhu added.
In closing, Ambassador Nuhu prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive the late president’s shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdausi.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away recently, served as Nigeria’s Head of State between 1983–1985 and as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023. His administration was marked by robust anti-corruption drives, military reform, and increased regional engagement on security and development.
