Nigerian Army confirms minor explosion at Ilese Barracks, says no casualties reported
The Nigerian Army has confirmed that a minor explosion followed by a fire outbreak occurred in the early hours of Thursday at Ilese Barracks, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
According to a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the incident happened within one of the storage buildings of the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter Improvised Explosive Device Squadron.

Swift action by troops of the 12 Field Engineer Regiment, in collaboration with the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service, brought the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to other facilities within the barracks.
“No lives were lost, and no injuries were sustained,” the statement assured. “The structural damage was confined to the affected building and some stored materials. A detailed assessment is underway to determine the extent of material loss.”
The Army urged residents of Ilese and surrounding communities to remain calm, noting that a full investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the explosion and to forestall a recurrence.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to the safety and security of its personnel and neighbouring communities,” the statement added.
