Army Chief Visits Troops in Ogoja, Pledges Improved Welfare and Operational Readiness
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has commended the resilience and dedication of troops serving in Ogoja, Cross River State, urging them to sustain their commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty and stability.
General Oluyede gave the commendation on Tuesday, 9 September 2025, during an operational visit to Godwin Ally Barracks, where he addressed officers and soldiers of 130 Battalion and 341 Artillery Regiment under the 82 Division Area of Operational Responsibility.
As part of the visit, the Army Chief inspected key facilities, interacted with troops, and expressed appreciation for their sacrifices in the face of challenging operational demands.

Reaffirming his “Soldiers First” policy, General Oluyede announced new measures to improve the welfare of personnel and their families. He disclosed plans to revamp schools within barracks to provide quality education for soldiers’ children, while also directing the immediate renovation of dilapidated residential accommodations.
He further noted that the recent increment in Ration Cash Allowance has boosted the quality of feeding for troops across formations, stressing that the Nigerian Army expects personnel to reciprocate with greater dedication in the discharge of their duties. In addition, he assured the soldiers of ongoing efforts to provide new uniforms and essential kits to strengthen operational readiness and reinforce esprit de corps.
General Oluyede also charged troops to uphold the highest standards of discipline and professionalism, while enhancing synergy with sister security agencies and host communities. He emphasized that such collaboration remains critical to achieving lasting peace and security in the region.
The visit formed part of the COAS’s routine assessment of Nigerian Army formations across the country.
