OPHK Launches Air-to-Ground Integration Training to Bolster Counterterrorism Operations
The Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) has commenced a specialised Air-to-Ground Integration (AGI) training programme aimed at boosting operational efficiency in the fight against terrorism across the North East.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, Lt Col Sani Uba, the orientation exercise, which kicked off on Monday at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, is the first of its kind under OPHK and is designed to enhance synergy, communication, and coordination between ground forces and air assets in combat operations.
Inaugurating the programme, Theatre Commander Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar underscored the centrality of AGI to modern warfare, stressing that effective coordination between air and ground troops would minimise fratricide, reduce civilian harm, and improve mission outcomes.

“Our collective efforts in combating terrorism require a well-trained and professional force that can work in synergy with other agencies and entities,” the Commander said. He urged participants drawn from formations across the theatre to embrace humility, responsibility, and open-mindedness during the training.
General Abubakar commended the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre (AWDC) Training Team for their technical input and reaffirmed OPHK’s commitment to building troop capacity through sustained collaboration with AWDC. He further appreciated the strategic leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for facilitating the programme.
Earlier, the Theatre Training Officer, Brigadier General Julius Ogbobe, charged participants to approach the sessions with seriousness, while the AWDC representative, Wing Commander Asa Abatura, assured that facilitators were committed to ensuring impactful learning outcomes. Abatura also expressed gratitude to the Air Component Commander, Air Commodore Umar Idris, for making aircraft available for the training.
The initiative reflects OPHK’s ongoing efforts to sharpen the operational capabilities of Nigerian troops and reinforce professionalism in the counterterrorism campaign across the North East.
