You’ll Heal Stronger — COAS Tells Wounded Troops as He Lifts Spirits During Hospital Visit
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Friday brought rare warmth and humour to the wards of the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna, as he visited troops wounded in action during his maiden operational tour of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
The Army Chief moved from bed to bed, sharing light jokes that drew smiles from the recovering soldiers, many of whom expressed surprise and delight at his personal attention. Beyond the warm gestures, General Shaibu commended the troops for their courage and sacrifice in defending the nation, assuring them of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to their full recovery.

Recalling his own experience as a former patient in the same hospital after surviving battle injuries, the COAS told the wounded personnel that he understood their struggles and the emotional toll of recovery. He expressed confidence in the hospital’s capacity and standards, noting that the medical team remained one of the Army’s most reliable pillars of support.
General Shaibu urged the soldiers to remain disciplined by adhering strictly to their treatment plans, adding that their resilience represented the spirit of the Nigerian Army. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the welfare system for personnel and their families, a central focus of his leadership.
The COAS also commended the hospital’s Medical Director, Brigadier General Godwin Ogoh, along with the officers, soldiers and civilian staff, for their professionalism and devotion to saving lives. Accompanied by principal staff officers from Army Headquarters, he toured ongoing facility upgrades and assessed progress made in enhancing medical services.
Continuing his operational engagement, Lieutenant General Shaibu later visited Headquarters Sub-Sector 4, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, along the Kaduna–Abuja Highway, where he met with frontline troops and reviewed their operational readiness and morale.
The visit forms part of his broader effort to boost troop confidence and reinforce the Army’s commitment to those who bear the heaviest cost of securing the nation.
