COAS Assures 6 Division Troops of Enhanced Welfare, Tasks Soldiers on Protecting National Assets
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its personnel, assuring officers and soldiers of 6 Division that their well-being remains a top priority of his leadership.
The COAS gave the assurance on Friday while addressing troops at the 29 Battalion Parade Ground during his maiden operational visit to the Headquarters of 6 Division, Nigerian Army, at the Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State.
Lieutenant General Shaibu said his ongoing visits to formations and units across the country are aimed at gaining firsthand insight into their operational readiness and challenges, with a view to implementing practical solutions.
He stressed that deliberate measures are already being taken to address identified gaps, noting that the welfare of officers, soldiers and their families is central to his command philosophy.

He charged troops of the Division to remain resolute in the discharge of their duties, particularly in safeguarding critical national infrastructure across the Niger Delta Region.
According to him, professionalism, discipline and dedication are essential to sustaining security operations that support increased oil production and national economic stability.
The Army Chief also urged personnel to remain committed to the Division’s mandate, emphasizing that their role is vital to peace, security and development in the region.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, briefed the COAS on the Division’s ongoing operations and security activities in the Niger Delta.
He also conducted the Army Chief around key projects within the barracks, reaffirming the Division’s alignment with and commitment to the COAS’ command philosophy.
Highlights of the visit included a symbolic tree-planting exercise by the COAS and accompanying Principal Staff Officers, as well as an interactive session with officers and soldiers, during which the Army Chief further reassured troops of his dedication to improving their welfare and operational effectiveness.
