Why JRB Construction Is Earning Federal Government Commendation

Within a span of six months, the Federal Government, under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has twice commended JRB Construction Company for the quality and speed of its road construction works.
The commendations were delivered through the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Nweze Umahi, following project inspections in November 2025 and January 2026.
The first commendation came after the successful execution of works on the long-abandoned Ogbomosho–Ilorin road, a critical arterial route linking the northern and southern parts of the country.
The second followed a nationwide project inspection, during which the Minister expressed satisfaction with JRB’s performance on the Abuja–Keffi section of a major highway serving as a key gateway into the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Minister’s praise of JRB Construction was particularly notable as it coincided with the reprimand of another contractor on the same corridor, alongside the removal of a Ministry official accused of colluding in the execution of substandard work.
Upon assuming office, Engr. Umahi had expressed concern over the widespread abandonment of federal road projects by contractors who had collected mobilisation funds without delivering results. Among such projects was the Ogbomosho–Oyo–Ilorin corridor, which had remained incomplete for over a decade, causing persistent hardship for road users.
Before the revocation of the original contract and its re-award to JRB Construction, the corridor had become notorious for frequent road accidents resulting in loss of lives, as well as heightened criminal activity exploiting the deplorable condition of the road.
The situation had drawn concern from commuters, transport operators, and the governments of Oyo and Kwara states.
However, barely six months after the re-award of the project, JRB Construction completed the road in record time.

A subsequent inspection by the Minister of Works confirmed the quality of the work, providing much-needed relief to residents and users of the corridor.
Earlier in mid-2025, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Works and members of the committee had also conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the project.
The lawmakers expressed surprise at the pace and quality of work delivered by JRB Construction, noting that indigenous contractors were increasingly demonstrating their capacity to compete favourably with foreign firms.
The commendations continued into 2026 when Engr. Umahi commenced the year with a series of project inspections. During a visit to the Abuja–Keffi road, he again praised JRB Construction for its technical competence, speed, and adherence to quality standards, while urging the company to sustain the momentum. In contrast, he issued a stern warning to another contractor handling a similar project on the corridor.
The Minister stated that JRB Construction’s performance had positioned the company for continued patronage from the Federal Government, adding that its consistency in quality delivery would also attract opportunities from multinational organisations.
According to him, the company’s growth potential was vast, provided it maintained its current standards.
He further called on other Nigerian construction firms to emulate JRB Construction’s commitment to timely delivery and high-quality workmanship.
Beyond the Ogbomosho–Ilorin and Abuja–Keffi roads, JRB Construction has previously executed remedial works on the Dikko–Zuba–Tunga Maje–Gwagwalada road. The company is also currently handling the reconstruction of the long-abandoned Lokoja–Abuja road section from Abaji to Gwagwalada, a project aimed at restoring full motorability and accessibility to the FCT.
As an indigenous construction firm, JRB Construction’s growing portfolio of completed and ongoing projects continues to leave a lasting impression on Nigerians, while reinforcing confidence in local capacity and encouraging sustained government patronage through the Ministry of Works.
