Troops neutralise ISWAP fighter in Borno ambush operation

Troops of Joint Task Force North East (Operation Hadin Kai) have neutralised a suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighter during an ambush operation in Borno.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was carried out at about 11:40 p.m. on Feb. 8 along a suspected terrorist movement corridor in the Timbuktu Triangle area.
The source said the ambush team was lying in wait ahead of own Bravo Company when it intercepted and engaged members of the Boko Haram terrorists.

“On sighting the troops, the terrorists fled in disarray in multiple directions. During immediate exploitation of the area, one ISWAP fighter was discovered neutralised,” the source said.
The sources added that items recovered at the scene included three scent-stick rubbers, three hijabs, four wrappers, 13 undergarments and other personal effects and cosmetics believed to belong to the fleeing terrorists.
The source said 75 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were expended during the engagement.
“No casualty was recorded on the side of the troops,”said the sources.
The military high command said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to deny terrorists freedom of movement and disrupt their logistics and regrouping in the North-East.
