OPERATION IGBO IDANU I: Troops Overrun Terrorist Camp, Recover Arms in Kogi
Troops of 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have recorded a significant operational breakthrough under Operation IGBO IDANU I, dealing what military authorities described as a decisive strategic blow to a notorious terrorist network linked to Kachalla Ibrahim and Shu’aibu in Kogi State.
According to a press statement, the operation saw troops advance through dense forest, challenging terrain and multiple riverine obstacles to reach the terrorists’ enclave. Despite severe movement constraints caused by fallen trees and marshy ground, the soldiers pressed forward, demonstrating resilience, professionalism and tactical discipline in the face of adversity.

The operation was personally led by the Commander, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi. In a bold tactical move aimed at achieving surprise and operational dominance, the troops reportedly dismounted and advanced on foot deep into the forest. The manoeuvre enabled them to penetrate the terrorist stronghold and completely overrun the camp.
Although the terrorists fled upon sighting the advancing troops, a thorough exploitation of the area led to the recovery of significant quantities of arms and ammunition.
Items recovered included eight boxes of 7.62 x 54 link ammunition containing bandoliers of 250 rounds each, as well as one box of high-velocity grenades. Military authorities said the seizure has substantially degraded the terrorists’ operational capability and disrupted their logistics base.
Following the clearance operation, the camp was systematically destroyed and set ablaze to prevent reoccupation. Troops have since continued aggressive patrols and sustained offensive operations within the general area to track fleeing elements and forestall any attempt at regrouping.
The Nigerian Army stated that the success of Operation IGBO IDANU I sends a clear message to terrorist groups that their hideouts will continue to be identified and neutralised.
