Army Reinforces Security in Plateau as COAS Deploys Over 850 Troops to Curb Rising Tensions
The Nigerian Army has intensified efforts to stabilise the security situation in Plateau State following the deployment of additional troops ordered by the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu.
In a decisive response to escalating tensions in parts of the state, the Army Chief approved the immediate reinforcement of ongoing operations under Operation ENDURING PEACE, with over 850 personnel drafted in from formations in Abuja and Kaduna.
The deployment is aimed at bolstering troops already on ground to de-escalate violence, restore law and order, and safeguard communities affected by recent disturbances.

Speaking during an operational visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE in Jos, Lt. Gen. Shaibu charged the troops to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and discipline while remaining resolute in confronting criminal elements threatening public safety.
He assured the personnel of adequate logistical support and the provision of necessary combat enablers to ensure the successful execution of their mandate.
“You must remain firm, focused, and professional in the discharge of your duties. The safety of law-abiding citizens depends on your commitment and conduct,” he told the troops.
Military authorities said the newly deployed forces have been specifically tasked with protecting lives and property, as well as maintaining a secure environment for residents across Plateau State.
The reinforcement underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to restoring lasting peace in the state, which has witnessed recurring security challenges in recent times.
The deployment was confirmed in a statement issued by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, on April 2, 2026.
