Troops Intensify Security Operations in Jos, Arrest Suspects and Recover Arms
Troops under Operation ENDURING PEACE have stepped up security measures across the Jos metropolis as part of efforts to contain rising tensions and prevent further escalation of violence in Plateau State.
The Joint Task Force disclosed that the intensified operation, which commenced on Friday, involved a comprehensive stop-and-search exercise targeting key areas within Jos North and surrounding districts. The move, according to military authorities, is aimed at restoring normalcy and safeguarding lives and property.

The operation yielded significant outcomes, with security personnel arresting two suspects and recovering a cache of weapons. Items recovered include a fabricated AK-47 rifle, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a pump-action firearm, and a cutlass. The arrests and seizures were made during coordinated operations across identified flashpoints and transit routes such as Dadinkowa, Old Airport Junction, Tudun Wada, and the State Low-Cost Housing Estate, spanning both Jos North and Jos South areas.
In a related development, troops responded to a distress call reporting sporadic gunfire at the Yelwa Cattle Market in Shendam. On arrival, the attackers reportedly fled into nearby bushes following the troops’ intervention. A subsequent sweep of the area led to the discovery of two local residents who had sustained gunshot injuries. The victims were promptly evacuated to a medical facility for urgent treatment.
Military authorities reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining a strong security presence across Plateau State. They emphasized that operations would continue with increased intensity until threats are neutralized and lasting peace is restored in affected communities.
