Troops foil ISWAP attack, neutralise two terrorists in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have foiled an attempted attack by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists along the Kirawa–Pulka axis of Borno State, neutralising two insurgents during a gun battle.
Security sources said the incident occurred on April 18 when troops of 153 Task Force Battalion deployed on picquetting duties along the Kirawa–Sabon Gari–Mararaba–Pulka road came in contact with terrorists attempting to infiltrate the Ngoshe axis.
The insurgents, who were riding on motorcycles, were reportedly moving from the Miyanti general area when they encountered the troops.

According to the sources, the troops engaged the terrorists with a high volume of fire, leading to the neutralisation of two of the attackers, while others fled in disarray in different directions.
Items recovered from the fleeing terrorists include one radio set and two motorcycles.
“There was no casualty on the side of the troops and no equipment loss recorded. The terrorists suffered casualties, with two neutralised, while others escaped with possible injuries,” the source said.
Following the encounter, troops conducted exploitation operations along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes but made no further contact.
Military authorities described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to dominate key routes and prevent insurgent movement across the theatre.
