Video of Abducted Retired General, Wife Surfaces as Captors Press Demands
A video showing retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, and his wife in captivity has surfaced online, providing the first visual confirmation of the couple since their abduction in Katsina State.
The footage, which has circulated across social media platforms and security circles, shows the retired senior military officer and his wife appearing distressed as they appeal for assistance and their safe release. The circumstances under which the video was recorded could not be independently verified, but security sources believe the couple made the statements while under the control of their captors.

According to sources familiar with the development, the video is believed to be part of efforts by the abductors to advance negotiations for the couple’s release. Unconfirmed reports within local security circles have linked the ongoing discussions to a notorious bandit leader identified as “Kachalla Maha.”
There are also indications that the kidnappers may be seeking the release of some detained associates as part of a proposed exchange arrangement, although authorities have yet to officially confirm such demands.
Major General Abubakar (rtd) and his wife were reportedly abducted while travelling through the Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State. Their driver reportedly escaped the attack despite sustaining gunshot wounds, while the vehicle was subsequently recovered by security operatives.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Nigerian military nor the Katsina State Police Command had issued an official statement regarding the video or provided an update on efforts to secure the release of the retired general and his wife.
