Tinubu Hails Troops, Reaffirms Commitment to Defeating Terrorism
President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has commended Nigerian troops and other security personnel for their unwavering commitment and sacrifices in the ongoing fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of violent extremism across the country.
In a message of appreciation to frontline security operatives, the President described members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies as the nation’s shield against forces seeking to undermine peace, security, and national unity.
According to him, Nigerian troops continue to bear the burden of national protection in difficult and often dangerous environments, enabling millions of citizens to go about their daily activities in safety and hope.
“You stand as a shield between innocent citizens and those who seek to destroy the peace, safety, and dignity of our communities,” Tinubu said, noting that soldiers operate across forests, roads, forward operating bases, airspaces, creeks, and other challenging terrains in defence of the nation.
The President acknowledged the immense challenges confronting security personnel, describing the counterterrorism campaign as a difficult mission marked by pain, pressure, and sacrifice. Despite these challenges, he praised the resilience and courage of troops, assuring them that their service and sacrifices are not taken for granted.
He extended his appreciation beyond the military to include personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), intelligence agencies, local security formations, and all others working tirelessly to safeguard the country.

Tinubu also paid tribute to the families of security personnel, recognizing the emotional and personal sacrifices they make in supporting loved ones deployed on national assignments.
“I also acknowledge the families behind the uniform. Many of you have endured long absences, anxious nights, and the emotional cost of duty. Nigeria remembers that sacrifice too,” he stated.
The President further honoured fallen heroes who paid the ultimate price in defence of the country, saying their bravery continues to live on through the communities they helped secure and the lives they protected.
He emphasized that the fight against terrorism is not solely the responsibility of the military and security agencies but a collective national obligation requiring active citizen participation.
Calling on Nigerians to support security operations through intelligence sharing, Tinubu urged citizens to promptly report suspicious activities to relevant authorities.
“When you see something, say something. When you know something, report it,” he urged.
Reaffirming his administration’s determination to defeat insecurity, the President declared that Nigeria would not bow to fear or allow terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and violent extremists to define the nation’s identity.
“Nigeria will not surrender to fear. We will not allow terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, or violent extremists to define who we are as a people,” he said.
The President concluded by expressing gratitude to all frontline personnel for their vigilance, patriotism, and service to the nation, while praying for divine protection over them as they continue to defend Nigeria.
The message comes amid ongoing military and security operations across various theatres aimed at degrading terrorist and criminal networks and restoring peace and stability in affected communities nationwide.
