COAS Inspects Troops in Ebonyi, Reaffirms Nigerian Army’s Commitment to Lasting Security in South-East
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to enhancing security across the South-East, following an operational assessment visit to troops at the Nkwagu Military Cantonment in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
The visit, which took place on Thursday, was part of the Army Chief’s ongoing operational tour aimed at evaluating troops’ combat readiness, operational effectiveness and welfare, while reinforcing his strategic vision of building a highly professional, adaptive and resilient force capable of addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges through joint and multi-agency operations.

Addressing officers and soldiers during the visit, Lt Gen Shaibu commended the troops for their courage, discipline and steadfast commitment to safeguarding the nation. He urged them to remain vigilant, uphold the Constitution, and continue to demonstrate the highest standards of professionalism and respect for human rights while sustaining pressure on criminal elements threatening peace and stability in the region.
The Army Chief also inspected key operational and welfare facilities within the cantonment, including the Military Hospital and troops’ accommodation. He reiterated that improving personnel welfare, healthcare services and infrastructure remains a top priority, noting that the wellbeing of soldiers is fundamental to enhancing operational effectiveness and achieving mission success.
Earlier, Lt Gen Shaibu received detailed operational and administrative briefings from field commanders on ongoing military operations, achievements recorded and existing logistical requirements. Expressing satisfaction with the progress made, he encouraged troops to sustain the momentum through closer collaboration with sister services, other security agencies and host communities.
The COAS stressed that stronger inter-agency cooperation and community engagement remain critical to consolidating peace, improving security and ensuring lasting stability across Ebonyi State and the wider South-East.
The operational visit underscores the Nigerian Army’s continued resolve to maintain a high level of operational preparedness while boosting troop morale and strengthening security efforts in one of the country’s key theatres of operation.
