The National Economic Council (NEC) comprising 36 the States Governors has approved the sum of $1 billion to tackle insurgency in the country.

Rising from its monthly meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, disclosed that the governors directed the Federal Government to take the money from the excess crude account.

The Excess Crude Account currently stands at $2.317 billion.

He said the fund will be spent on behalf of the states by the Federal Government in the purchase of equipment, logistics, and procurement of intelligence among others to fight Boko Haram.

Obaseki said the money is part of states contributions to the collective fight against insurgency in the country.
