Terrorists left seven people injured when they attacked residents of Iburo community of Shiroro Local government area in Niger state.
HumAngle gathered that the community was attacked in the early morning of Friday, June 19.
Sources confirmed that the injured victims are receiving care at Zom Primary Health Care as at the time of this report.
The terror group stormed the community on motorcycles around 12:35 am and spent more than three hours shooting sporadically into the air, terrorizing the local civilians, destroying shops and looting their money and goods.
Shiroro local government area is popularly described as the basket food produce of Niger state and it is well known for the production of yam, rice and cassava.
In the last three years, the local government area is believed to be the epicentre of banditry, kidnapping and cattle rustling, especially as it shares a border with Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna state.
Speaking with HumAngle, Hamisu, who sells grain in the community, said, “when the group arrived, they instructed us to handover our phones, money and any type of grain stored in our houses or shops.
“This is not the first time they are coming to our community in hundreds especially whenever they need money or food items.
“We have a good understanding with them, but today`s attack was very violent and the group increased in significant numbers. Previous attacks were not up to 100 people but this one they are many more than the number we know,” he said.
Another resident of the community, Jummai said, “we narrowly escaped through the back door with my husband, so I cannot ascertain the number of the people injured in the attacks yet because it is very dark and many escaped into the neighbouring communities but I heard some people are in Zom hospital now.
In April 2020, a group of more than 200 farmers from the various communities of the local government were attacked. This made a lot of the farmers leave their farmlands. One of the farmers told HumAngle, “farming is very risky this year because all the farmers in my community are in the town now as internally displaced persons. We are all afraid.
“These people are deadly killers, we even received several messages from them warning us not to go near our farms if we really want to survive.”
HumAngle recalls that on June 16, a group of protesters from Shiroro Local Government Area and other communities stormed the state capital protesting against the frequent killing of innocent people in the various villages of the local government.
