#EndSARS: Families Of Four Slain Policemen Get N2m in Anambra

Families of four policemen killed in the violence that followed the peaceful #ENDSARS protest have been given compensation of N2 million each by the government of Anambra State, Southeast Nigeria.

Eleven others who sustained varying degrees of injuries were given N250, 000 each with a promise that their hospital bills would be written off by the State Government.

Willie Obiano, Governor of Anambra State had earmarked the sum of N200 million for victims of police brutality and violent attacks by hoodlums during the #EndSARS protest in the state.

Obiano also donated 13 operational vehicles to the State Police Command as support to the newly formed Rapid Response Squad (RRS) to boost security infrastructure in the state.

The governor announced a cash donation of N1 million to each of the 11 Divisional Police Officers and their men, N1 million to Special Anti Cult Unit(SPACS) and N2 million each to Police Mobile bases in Awka and Onitsha respectively.

Area Command Onitsha got N500,000.00 while the Command Situation Office got the sum of N1 million.

Obiano said the gesture was to show appreciation to the state Police Command for their roles in protecting public property in the state and to commiserate with the families of those policemen that lost their lives during the protests.

John Abang, Commissioner of Police in Anambra had said the Command lost four policemen, including a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to the violent attacks by hoodlums.

He said the hoodlums also burnt 11 police stations, vandalised six others and carted away motorcycles, ammunition and other valuables.

The Police Commissioner said the hoodlums burnt 20 vehicles, including an Armoured Personnel Carrier and patrol vehicles.
Abang thanked the governor and appealed for more support to families of the fallen policemen as well as a grant to the police personnel who lost valuable assets in the attacks.

Abang also appealed for the rebuilding and renovation of police stations and barracks as soon as possible and provision of more operational vehicles.

The affected police formations also got monetary support to enable them to begin operations with less hitch.
