My local government area still under Boko Haram control, Borno Speaker cries out

• debunks Lai Mohammed, Olanisakin claims

The Speaker of Borno State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, has debunked what he termed “misleading information” by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed and the outgone Chief of Defence  Staff, (CDS), General Gabriel Olanisakin (rtd) claiming that all the 27 local government areas in Borno State have been liberated. He pointed out that Guzamala Local Government is still under the command and control of Boko Haram terrorists.

He said not all the 27 local government areas of the state have been liberated from the hands of the insurgents as Guzamala, his local government of origin, is still under the control Boko Haram terrorists.

He said, “There is no existence of human life in Guzamala not to talk of military presence in the headquarters and neighboring communities”.

The speaker disclosed this during the, Guzamala Concerned Stakeholders’ Meeting, in Maiduguri as they continued to stay in resettlement camps and host communities for several years.

He said despite his agitation for military presence in Guzamala to enable displaced people take advantage of Governor Babagana Zulum’s move in Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, but to no avail, as Guzamala is still a ‘no go area’.

The law maker who has been re-elected for four consecutive times representing Guzamala state constituency, he has spent over three years without stepping into Guzamala, and wondered why the Federal Government Officials who are staying in their comfort zones in Abuja,would fabricate unconfirmed stories made available to the general public that all local government areas in Borno are safe.

“We have a total of 774 Local Government areas in Nigeria, we in Guzamala Council want the Federal Government to tell us whether Guzalama has been cancelled out of the 774 so that we can know our position and look for a better option”, he stated.

And that, even in the whole of the 10 Local Government Areas in  Northern Borno,  only nine Council Headquarters are relatively safe, but not in wards or villages, as most people from Northern Borno including their Imams, Traditional Rulers and stakeholders live in Maiduguri.
