NERDC set to reform basic education in Nigeria, considers uniform continuous assessment report

The Nigerian Education Research and Development Council (NERDC) is primed to reform primary and junior secondary education in Nigeria in response to the observed falling standard across the country.

The Executive Secretary of NERDC, Prof Salisu Shehu, stated this recently when the management of Print Secure Limited made a presentation on a uniform and standardized continuous assessment report booklet for pupils of primary and junior secondary schools in Nigeria to the Council. He said tNERDC welcomes progressive initiatives from stakeholders that will help in repositioning basic education in country.

According to him, the agency is ready and willing to partner with stakeholders who are committed to improving the quality and standard of education in Nigeria.

In his submission, the Chief Executive Officer of Print Secure Limited, Hon Mahiru Maiwada Wundi, noted that the falling standard of basic education in the country is unacceptable, noting that there is a need for new initiatives to rescue it. He said the key aspect of this reform is the introduction of a uniform and standardized continuous assessment report for all pupils in Nigeria, promising that his organization is ready to stand in the gap to ensure the production of the report booklet.

He therefore assured the management of NERDC that his organization was ready to partner with the Council to change the narrative. He urged the Council to consider the new initiative for uniform and standardized continuous assessment report booklet which the organization.

According to him, the proposed uniform assessment report booklet will enhance pupil performance and achievement by providing clear goals, expectations, and feedback, among other benefits.

Corroborating Hon Wundi’s position, the Technical Director of Print Secure Limited, Dr Ibrahim Aminu, an educationist and two-time Commissioner of Education in Bauchi State, said that by introducing a uniform and standardized continuous assessment report booklet, Nigeria can take a significant step towards improving the quality of primary and junior secondary education, enhancing pupil performance, and promoting accountability and transparency in the education system.
