Troops Gun Down Militia in Plateau After Failed Attempt to Snatch Soldier’s Rifle
Troops of 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE have gunned down an armed militia in Plateau State after he attempted to overpower a soldier and escape during an operation.
The incident happened on Friday, 5 September 2025, in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, following a sting operation on a suspected militia hideout.

In a statement on Saturday, Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer of Operation ENDURING PEACE, said the development followed the earlier arrest of the militia on 4 September at Kaskra, where he was caught with an AK-47 rifle and 11 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition.
The suspect, who admitted to involvement in several criminal activities in Barkin Ladi, had volunteered to lead troops to his cohorts’ hideout to recover more weapons. But during the search, he reportedly made a desperate move to wrestle a rifle from a soldier in a bid to escape.
“The troops acted swiftly and neutralised him,” Zhakom said, adding that the remains of the militia have been deposited in a morgue.
He stressed that the troops of 3 Division/JTF OPEP remain resolute in flushing out armed groups and restoring peace to Plateau communities, vowing that the military “will not relent until the entire Joint Operations Area is fully secured from these miscreants.”
