No Hiding Place: NAF Air Strikes Decimate Insurgents in Borno, Destroy their Enclaves

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has once again taken the fight to insurgents in the North East, unleashing a devastating air strike that neutralised scores of terrorists and dismantled one of their rallying points in Borno State.
The operation, carried out by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI (AC OPHK) on Wednesday, 17 September, targeted Bula Madibale in the Gezuwa general area, a location long suspected of harbouring extremist activities. According to NAF spokesman, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the mission was executed after intelligence and surveillance picked up unusual movements in the area.

What followed painted a picture of a high-value target. Reconnaissance revealed nearly 45 terrorists converging, some riding in on motorcycles and bicycles. Two black flags were hoisted at the location, a clear sign of its symbolic and operational importance as an insurgent enclave.
At about 10:50 a.m., NAF jets swooped in with precision-guided strikes. By the time the dust settled, the terrorists’ gathering point had been destroyed, their flagged structure reduced to rubble, and dozens of fighters neutralised.
For military analysts, the strike underscores the Air Force’s increasing reliance on intelligence-led operations to deny insurgents the space to regroup or launch fresh attacks. “These types of targeted strikes weaken the enemy’s ability to organise, while sending a strong message that nowhere is safe for them,” a counter-insurgency expert familiar with the region noted.
Beyond the immediate tactical gains, experts believe that the operation is in line with the strategy of sustaining pressure on terrorist networks to prevent them from regaining momentum. It also reassures local communities that the military remains committed to restoring stability in the North East.
While challenges remain in the wider counter-insurgency campaign, Wednesday’s strike at Bula Madibale is yet another decisive role that air power continues to play in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.
