Army Debunks False Report of Bandits Overrunning Troops in Kwara, says troops “recording operational gains”

The Nigerian Army has dismissed as false and misleading a viral online report alleging that bandits overran military positions and carted away weapons and ammunition in Obanla, Kwara State.
In a statement issued on Sunday by Lieutenant Colonel Polycarp Okoye, Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 2 Division Nigerian Army, the military described the publication as a deliberate fabrication aimed at misleading the public and undermining troop morale.

According to the statement, troops of 148 Battalion (Rear) currently conducting clearance operations across Kogi and Kwara States have continued to record operational gains, including the neutralization of two armed bandits and the recovery of two brand-new AK-47 rifles during a recent encounter along the Kwara–Ekiti border axis.
“At no time were Army positions overrun, nor was any cache of weapons or ammunition lost to criminal elements, as mischievously reported by the online platform,” the statement emphasized.
The Army urged members of the public to disregard the false report, reaffirming its commitment to ongoing counter-banditry operations in the region. It further encouraged citizens to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to aid the success of military efforts.
“The Nigerian Army remains resolute in ensuring that all forms of criminality are decisively dealt with and will sustain the tempo of operations until all criminal networks in Kogi, Kwara, and adjoining states are dismantled,” the statement added.
