Brigade Commander Leads Troops Back to Base After Fierce Clash with Terrorists in Borno
Troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade, operating in Borno State, successfully repelled a deadly ambush by terrorists near Wajiroko, Azir Multe, in Damboa Local Government Area, the Nigerian Army confirmed on Friday.
The patrol team, which included soldiers of the Brigade and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), was returning from a routine mission on the fringes of the Sambisa Forest when it came under sudden and heavy fire from insurgents.
According to a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the team was led by Brigadier General M. Uba, Commander of 25 Task Force Brigade. Despite the intensity of the attack, the troops fought valiantly, using superior firepower to force the terrorists to retreat in disarray and abandon their mission.

Tragically, the Army reported that two soldiers and two CJTF members lost their lives during the encounter. The Army high command expressed deep condolences to the families and associates of the fallen heroes, describing their sacrifice as the ultimate act of patriotism in service to the nation.
In response to circulating online reports alleging that the Brigade Commander was abducted during the attack, the Army dismissed the claims as “fake news,” urging the public to disregard such misinformation.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, praised the troops for their exceptional courage and commitment. He noted that operating in volatile areas like the Sambisa axis remains one of the nation’s most demanding military assignments.
“These soldiers and their CJTF partners serve on the frontlines of our fight against extremism. Their resilience in the face of grave danger is a testament to their dedication to keeping Nigeria safe,” the statement concluded.
