COAS Hails NAOWA’s Vital Contribution to Home-Front Stability, Troops’ Morale
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has applauded the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) for its strategic role in strengthening home-front stability and boosting the morale of troops across the Nigerian Army.
He gave the commendation on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, when the President of NAOWA, Mrs. Safiyya Hassan Shaibu, led members of the association’s executive council on a courtesy visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
Lieutenant General Shaibu noted that NAOWA’s long-standing support—particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and community development—continues to play a crucial role in maintaining a stable family environment for officers and soldiers. Such stability, he said, enables personnel to focus on their constitutional duties with enhanced emotional and mental readiness.

The Army Chief stressed the growing importance of digital literacy, skills acquisition and enlightenment on fake news among military families, observing that technology now plays an increasingly significant role in national development and social wellbeing.
He appealed for NAOWA’s continued partnership in strengthening the Army Command and NAOWA Hospital, while encouraging the extension of similar home-front support initiatives to the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA).
Earlier, NAOWA President Mrs. Safiyya Hassan Shaibu congratulated the COAS on his appointment and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to supporting military families. She outlined her administration’s vision of building a united, forward-thinking and impactful organisation focused on empowerment, welfare and sustainable livelihoods.
She revealed ongoing plans to establish a NAOWA Innovation Hub equipped with modern training facilities, as well as renewed efforts to revitalise NAOWA projects across Army formations nationwide.
Army Spokesperson, Lt Col Apollonia Anele, said in a statement she issued late on Tuesday that the visit underscored the deepening synergy between the Nigerian Army leadership and the association dedicated to fostering resilient military families.
