NYSC Mourns Former Director-General, Brig Gen Soyemi Sofoluwe
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of its former Director-General, Brigadier General Soyemi Ayodele Sofoluwe (rtd.), describing his passing as a painful loss to the scheme and the nation.
The current Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, conveyed the Corps’ condolences during a visit to the Sofoluwe family in Lagos, where he paid glowing tribute to the late officer’s enduring contributions to the growth, stability and institutional development of the scheme.

Brigadier General Nafiu said the death of the former Director-General was a major blow not only to his immediate family but also to the NYSC and Nigeria as a whole, noting that Sofoluwe’s leadership as the 7th Director-General left an indelible mark on the organisation.
According to him, the late Sofoluwe’s tenure was characterised by commitment, dedication and a people-oriented leadership style that strengthened the operations and cohesion of the scheme.
He offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the departed officer’s soul and asked God to grant fortitude to the Sofoluwe family to bear the loss.
The NYSC boss also assured the widow of the deceased and matriarch of the Sofoluwe family, Colonel Kehinde Sofoluwe (rtd.), of the scheme’s full support and solidarity throughout the funeral rites.
Brigadier General Sofoluwe, fondly known as “Oga Show” by corps members and NYSC staff, was widely admired for his warmth, compassion and sense of humour, qualities that endeared him to many during his years of service.
He is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.
