Army Dismisses Mutiny Claims as Fake News, Reaffirms Commitment to Troop Welfare and Discipline
The Nigerian Army has firmly debunked reports alleging that soldiers are threatening mutiny over issues of salaries and allowances, describing the claims as false, misleading and a deliberate attempt to undermine national security.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Army condemned an online publication which suggested that discontent among troops could trigger mutiny, insisting that no such threat exists within its ranks.
According to the Army, mutiny is a grave offence under military law and completely alien to the ethos, discipline and professionalism that define the institution.
“The Nigerian Army remains loyal to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,” the statement said, stressing that officers and soldiers are trained to channel grievances through established internal mechanisms rather than through public or unofficial platforms.
The Army faulted the report for relying on anonymous and unverifiable claims circulated through non-official channels, noting that such narratives do not reflect the conduct or disposition of its personnel.
Clarifying issues around remuneration, the Army explained that promotion increments represent only a fraction of total military earnings and should not be misrepresented as such.

Military pay, it noted, includes consolidated salaries, rank-based allowances, operational, field and hardship allowances, as well as other entitlements that vary depending on deployment, qualifications and responsibilities.
The statement further highlighted ongoing welfare reforms being implemented in collaboration with the Armed Forces of Nigeria and relevant government authorities.
These include periodic salary reviews, enhanced operational allowances, improved accommodation, medical care and insurance packages for personnel and their families.
It added that the Chief of Army Staff, since assuming office, has initiated constructive engagements with appropriate authorities on troop welfare, engagements which are already yielding positive results.
The Army also underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly amid evolving security challenges across the country.
Reaffirming its professionalism, the Nigerian Army stated that it remains cohesive, disciplined and fully focused on its constitutional mandate of defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and supporting internal security operations.
The public was urged to disregard what the Army described as unfounded and sensational reports, and to rely solely on official communication channels for accurate information concerning the Armed Forces.
