Merit, Reform and Professionalism in Focus as Brig Gen Sule Takes Helm of Army Recruitment Directorate
Brigadier General Ismaila Sule has formally taken over as the 17th Director of Recruitment of the Nigerian Army, pledging to uphold merit, strengthen standards, and consolidate existing reforms within the Directorate.
The handover ceremony, held at the Directorate of Recruitment Headquarters in Abuja, saw Brigadier General Sule succeed Brigadier General Chibueze Ogbuabo in a brief but symbolic event attended by officers and soldiers of the Directorate.
In his inaugural address, Brigadier General Sule reaffirmed his resolve to build on the achievements recorded under his predecessor’s leadership. He stressed the importance of sustaining ongoing reforms and improving operational efficiency to ensure the recruitment of credible, qualified, and merit-based candidates into the Nigerian Army.

He charged personnel of the Directorate to remain disciplined, steadfast, and committed to upholding the highest professional standards in the discharge of their duties.
The new Director underscored that recruitment remains a critical pillar in strengthening the Army’s manpower base and must align strictly with the Command Philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff.
Brigadier General Sule expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, for the confidence reposed in him through the appointment. He also commended Brigadier General Ogbuabo for his impactful stewardship and wished him success in his future assignments.
In his valedictory remarks, Brigadier General Ogbuabo congratulated his successor and called on officers and soldiers to accord him maximum cooperation.
He emphasized the need for sustained professionalism, integrity, and dedication in advancing the Directorate’s strategic role in manpower development for the Nigerian Army.
The ceremony featured the formal signing of handover notes, the symbolic lowering and hoisting of the Directorate’s flag, and a group photograph to commemorate the transition.
