Troops Nab Suspects, Rescue Kidnap Victim in Benue Clearance Operations
Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE have recorded notable operational gains following a series of intelligence-driven clearance missions conducted on March 24, 2026, across parts of Benue State.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, the operations were executed based on credible intelligence on the activities of armed herders in Mbapa and Mbabuande communities in Gwer West Local Government Area.
Troops of Sector 1, deployed from Bilawa-Jor and Naka, swiftly mobilised to the affected areas where they conducted a comprehensive search.
During the operation, an abandoned hideout suspected to have been used by criminal elements was uncovered. Further exploitation efforts extending across River Akpako led to the arrest of two suspects, who are currently in custody undergoing investigation.

In a related development, troops responded to reports of kidnapping at Tse-Ubena village in Yooyo Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.
Personnel deployed from Tor-Donga, working in collaboration with operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, carried out a coordinated raid on a suspected criminal hideout.
The operation resulted in the successful rescue of a 28-year-old kidnap victim, identified as Mrs Member Ityavber. She has since received medical attention, undergone debriefing, and has been safely reunited with her family.
Security forces have intensified efforts to track down and apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate.
Reacting to the development, the Force Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism and swift response.
He reiterated the commitment of the Joint Task Force to sustaining security across the state, particularly as communities prepare for the upcoming farming season.
The Joint Task Force assured residents of its continued resolve to rid the area of criminal elements and maintain peace and stability.
