COAS leads joint security chiefs to Jos, vows decisive action to restore peace in Plateau
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday led a high-powered delegation of security chiefs on an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation in Jos, reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to restoring calm and ensuring lasting peace in Plateau State.
The strategic visit, which forms part of intensified efforts to stabilise affected communities, underscores a coordinated national response to emerging security challenges in the state. Upon arrival, the COAS was received by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, reflecting strong civil-military collaboration in addressing the crisis.

During the engagement, Lieutenant General Shaibu was briefed by the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola. The operational update highlighted ongoing security measures, including joint operations with other agencies aimed at containing threats, safeguarding lives and property, and restoring normalcy across troubled areas.
The COAS also held interactive sessions with community leaders and residents, assuring them of the Army’s unwavering resolve to protect all law-abiding citizens. He urged residents to remain calm, comply with existing security measures such as curfews, and cooperate with security agencies to facilitate ongoing operations and investigations.
Local authorities commended the intervention, describing it as both timely and reassuring. Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, Hon. Dachung Bagos, noted that the presence of the nation’s top military leadership would significantly boost public confidence and strengthen trust in ongoing security efforts. Similarly, Councillor representing Naraguta ‘B’ Ward, Hon. Ladi Dangyok, described the visit as a critical show of commitment to affected communities.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its resolve to work closely with sister security agencies, the Plateau State Government, and other stakeholders to decisively tackle security threats. The coordinated approach, it said, is central to restoring enduring peace, enhancing community resilience, and ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Plateau State.
