Tinubu Approves New Police Academy Campus in Ogun, N15bn Take-Off Grant
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, alongside a N15 billion take-off grant to support its development.
The approval, announced in a State House press release on Monday, is in line with the provisions of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, which mandates the expansion of the academy beyond its current base in Wudil into multiple campuses nationwide.
According to the statement, the N15 billion intervention fund will be drawn from the 2026 allocation of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TetFund) and will be used to finance critical infrastructure, academic facilities, student accommodation, and core training equipment.

The decision followed a high-level consultative meeting involving the Federal Ministry of Police Affairs, the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspector-General of Police, and the National Universities Commission (NUC). The meeting evaluated key factors including student intake capacity, funding sustainability, academic quality assurance, and the long-term manpower needs of the Nigerian Police Force, which is currently expanding recruitment.
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, and other stakeholders at the meeting recommended Erinja as the preferred location for the new campus.
President Tinubu said the expansion of the Police Academy is expected to strengthen institutional governance, enhance modern policing education, and bolster national security capacity across the country.
The new campus is part of broader efforts by the federal government to reform and reposition the Nigeria Police Force through improved training and infrastructure.
