Troops Discover Illegal Refining Site in Rivers Forest During Anti-Bunkering Operation

Troops under Joint Task Force South-South Operation Delta Safe (JTF-SS OPDS) have uncovered an illegal crude oil refining site in Orashi National Forest in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Military sources said the discovery was made on June 3 at about 1230 hours during a coordinated anti-illegal bunkering operation conducted by troops of the 16 Brigade, Garrison, and 5 Battalion.
According to the sources, the troops stumbled on an illegal refining site equipped with two large drum ovens, two coolant systems, two receiver containers, two waste pits, and a galvanized pipeline estimated to be about 100 metres long.

The site, located deep within the Orashi forest reserve, was reportedly being used for crude oil processing and other illicit petroleum-related activities.
Security sources said all items found at the location were handled in line with the established operational directives of Operation Delta Safe.
The military has continued sustained operations aimed at dismantling illegal refining camps, disrupting oil theft networks, and protecting critical national assets in the Niger Delta region.
Authorities noted that anti-bunkering operations remain a key component of efforts to curb economic sabotage and environmental degradation linked to illegal oil activities.
Further operations are expected to continue in the area as troops intensify surveillance and clearance of suspected illegal refining sites.
