Security Forces Uncover Major IPOB/ESN Arms Cache Hidden in Enugu Piggery
Troops of the 82 Division Garrison operating under Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have uncovered a major arms cache belonging to suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during a coordinated intelligence-led operation in Enugu State.
The operation, conducted on June 9 under the ongoing Operation EASTERN SANITY II, followed credible intelligence obtained from previously arrested IPOB/ESN suspects. Acting on the information, security forces carried out a precision raid in Gariki, Enugu South Local Government Area, where they discovered a clandestine arms depot concealed inside a zinc structure disguised as a piggery.

A thorough search of the facility led to the recovery of a significant cache of weapons and ammunition, including General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), an RPG-7 launcher tube, AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, a tear gas gun with cartridges, several AK-47 magazines, 270 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 478 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
Military authorities said all recovered weapons, ammunition and arrested suspects have been handed over to the DSS Enugu State Command for further investigation and prosecution. The discovery is regarded as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle armed networks and criminal elements threatening peace and security in the South-East.
The Army noted that the success of the operation underscores the effectiveness of interagency cooperation and intelligence-driven operations under Operation UDO KA. It reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive actions against violent groups and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability across the region.
