NAF Airstrikes Decimate Terrorist Stronghold, Kill Scores in Lake Chad Basin
By Security Digest
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recorded a major operational breakthrough in the ongoing counterterrorism campaign in the North-East, following precision airstrikes that destroyed a terrorist enclave and neutralised scores of insurgents in the Lake Chad Basin.
The successful operation was carried out in the early hours of June 10 at METELE in the Northern Tumbuns area under the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI. According to the NAF, the mission was launched after credible intelligence and follow-up Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions confirmed the presence of a senior terrorist commander, terrorist hideouts and heightened insurgent activities within the area.

Acting on the intelligence, NAF air assets were deployed to engage the identified targets. Aircrew reportedly observed significant movement of terrorists around concealed structures upon arrival, providing further confirmation of hostile activity. Following positive target identification, the aircraft executed precision strikes that inflicted devastating damage on the terrorist positions.
A post-strike Battle Damage Assessment confirmed that the terrorist enclave was destroyed and scores of terrorists were neutralised during the operation, dealing a significant blow to insurgent operations in the region.
Reacting to the success, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, commended the personnel involved and reiterated the Nigerian Air Force’s resolve to sustain pressure on terrorist groups.
He said the NAF would continue to leverage its air power capabilities to locate, strike and eliminate terrorist targets, while denying insurgents any safe haven within Nigeria’s sovereign territory.
