Plateau Peace Committee Adopts Abuja Delegation Report, Moves to Launch ‘Plateau Resolve 2.0’

The Plateau State Peace Committee has adopted the report of its sub-committee chaired by former Governor of the state, Sen. Joshua Chibi Dariye, as a working document to guide the implementation of measures aimed at achieving lasting peace, security and reconciliation across the state.
The decision was reached at a meeting of the committee convened by Gov. Caleb Mutfwang, following the presentation of the report by the sub-committee.
The committee was constituted after a high-powered delegation from Plateau State met with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja on April 27, 2026, to seek lasting solutions to the recurring security challenges and communal conflicts in the state.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, members of the committee unanimously adopted the report as the framework for implementing practical measures to promote peace, unity and sustainable development in Plateau.
The committee commended Dariye and members of the sub-committee for what it described as their diligence, patriotism and commitment in producing a comprehensive report that reflects the aspirations of the people of the state.
It noted that the report represents a significant milestone in Plateau’s ongoing peace-building efforts.

The state government also reaffirmed its commitment to reviewing previous policies and programmes introduced by successive administrations with a view to identifying viable initiatives that would strengthen community policing, promote inclusiveness and enrich the final implementation framework.
The committee further directed the Dariye-led sub-committee to submit additional recommendations on areas requiring further attention or issues not fully addressed in the report.
On the issue of indigene-settler relations, the committee acknowledged the constitutional implications surrounding the matter and emphasised the need for sustained dialogue as the foundation for enduring peace and harmonious coexistence.
To deepen reconciliation efforts, the committee resolved that the state government should immediately begin preparations for “Plateau Resolve 2.0,” a broad-based dialogue platform designed to foster reconciliation, strengthen social cohesion and promote mutual understanding among all communities in the state.
The committee said the adoption of the report demonstrates the collective determination of Plateau leaders and stakeholders to place the interest of the state above all other considerations and pursue lasting solutions through dialogue, justice, inclusiveness and collaborative governance.
It added that the state government remained committed to implementing the committee’s recommendations in partnership with traditional institutions, religious leaders, civil society organisations, security agencies, development partners and residents to build a peaceful, united and prosperous Plateau State.
The meeting was attended by past governors of the state, political leaders, the Chairman of the Plateau State Traditional Council of Chiefs and Emirs, leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), as well as representatives of women, youth and civil society organisations.
