Troops rescue woman abducted by Boko Haram in 2021, total rescued through Gwoza corridor rises to 117

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have rescued a 20-year-old woman who was abducted by Boko Haram insurgents during the 2021 farming season after she escaped from a terrorist camp in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the victim, identified as Ummi Umar, was found by troops of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion, Ngoshe, while on a routine standing patrol at about 3:35 p.m. on July 29.
The troops reportedly sighted her wandering around the Amuda Bridge area before taking her into protective custody.

During preliminary debriefing, Ummi disclosed that she had been abducted by Boko Haram fighters in 2021 and taken to the Suyaka terrorist camp in Gava 1, where she remained in captivity for several years.
She told the troops that she was able to escape after the insurgents abandoned the camp, creating an opportunity for her to flee.
The troops administered first aid to the victim before handing her over to the Ngoshe community leadership through Bulama Mallam Kunda, the community head, for further care and reunification.
Military sources said the latest rescue brings to 117 the total number of abductees rescued through the Gwoza East Corridor since the terrorist attack of March 3, 2026, underscoring the gains being recorded through sustained military operations and patrols in the area.
The sources added that although the security situation across the North-East theatre remains relatively calm, it is still unpredictable, with troops maintaining high morale and continuing offensive operations to dismantle the remaining Boko Haram and ISWAP enclaves.
