Suspects Lead Troops to Shallow Grave of Community Chief in Imo Forest

Troops of 34 Artillery Brigade under the Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA (OPUK), have exhumed the remains of a community leader allegedly murdered by suspected criminal elements following a confession by arrested suspects.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the breakthrough followed the arrest of suspects linked to the killing of a soldier and the wounding of another during an attack on troops on July 31.

According to the sources, at about noon on Aug. 2, one of the suspects confessed to the murder of Chief Ibe Anyadu of Aggah Community and subsequently led troops to a shallow grave in Umudike Forest, where the victim’s remains were buried.
The sources said the grave was identified by two suspects, Melody and Albert Tony, also known as Chiboy, who allegedly confessed to participating in the killing of the community chief.
The exhumation was witnessed by members of the deceased’s family and representatives of the host communities.
Following the exercise, the family provided a coffin and an ambulance to convey the remains for burial in accordance with local traditional rites.
Military authorities said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the murder and prosecute all those found culpable.
