Three ISWAP Commanders, Over 22 Fighters Killed in Mandaragirau Clash – Intelligence

Three senior commanders of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) were among more than 25 fighters reportedly killed during a recent clash in the Mandaragirau axis, according to sources.
Security sources said the three commanders included two senior field commanders identified as Abu Khalid and Abul Baraa, both described as Qa’ids, as well as another commander identified as Munzir.
The intelligence indicated that the three were among four senior commanders who led the ISWAP attack in the Mandaragirau area.
More than 22 other ISWAP fighters were also reportedly killed during the encounter, representing a significant loss to the group in the area.
The intelligence further indicated that three other commanders at the Naqib level and between 15 and 20 fighters remain unaccounted for following the clash.

Security sources believe some of the missing fighters may have dispersed into surrounding communities in an attempt to evade pursuing forces.
Recent movements attributed to ISWAP around the Mandaragirau area are reportedly consistent with efforts by the group to locate and recover its missing personnel.
The loss of the three senior commanders is expected to temporarily affect ISWAP’s operational effectiveness in the Mandaragirau axis, particularly its ability to coordinate attacks and maintain command and control.
However, security sources cautioned that surviving elements of the group remain capable of regrouping or attempting retaliatory attacks.
The latest development therefore draws attention to the need for continued security operations to prevent surviving ISWAP fighters from reorganising and re-establishing their presence in the area.
The intelligence assessment noted that sustained security pressure would be important in consolidating the gains recorded during the operation and denying the group the opportunity to regain operational momentum.
