Troops foil IPOB/ESN ambush, IED attacks during offensive operation in Enugu

Joint troops of Sector 1, comprising personnel from 82 Division Garrison, 103 Battalion (Rear), 197 Special Forces Battalion, 15 Brigade and Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service (NN SBS), have foiled attacks by suspected IPOB/ESN terrorists during an offensive operation in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was conducted at about 4:00 a.m. on Sept. 28, 2026, around Imezi-Owa, Abunozu communities and Afor-Ugwu/Ajali forest areas of the local government area.

The troops, working in conjunction with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), local informants and with air support from the Air Component of Operation UDO KA, engaged suspected IPOB/ESN fighters near Ugbene Bridge.
The terrorists were forced to flee following the troops’ offensive action.
During exploitation of the area, the troops encountered command-detonated improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and attempted ambushes.
The attacks were successfully foiled by the troops, who continued to dominate the operational area.
Security forces are maintaining operations in the area to prevent the regrouping of the fleeing terrorists and to further clear the forest corridors.
