Troops Kill Two Terrorists, Recover Four AK-47 Rifles in Sokoto
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two terrorists and recovered four AK-47 rifles, eight motorcycles and other military-related items during clearance operations in Sokoto State.
The operation, conducted on October 15, 2026, targeted terrorist elements in Waria Forest and Sarma Village as part of sustained efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore security across the North-West.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 2 made contact with terrorists in Waria Forest and engaged them in a firefight, neutralising one terrorist.
The troops subsequently recovered two AK-47 rifles, two motorcycles and other items from the scene.
In a separate encounter at Sarma Village, the troops engaged another group of terrorists, neutralising one fighter and forcing the others to flee, abandoning their equipment.

A follow-up search of the area led to the recovery of two additional AK-47 rifles, six motorcycles, four magazines, 23 rounds of ammunition, a communication device and other items.
The recoveries bring the total number of AK-47 rifles seized during the operations to four and motorcycles to eight.
The Theatre Command said the successes demonstrated its commitment to sustained offensive operations against terrorist groups and efforts to restore lasting peace and security across its joint operations area.
It also acknowledged the support and cooperation of members of the public, urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to the nearest security outpost.
The latest operation forms part of ongoing military efforts to contain terrorism and other security threats in Nigeria’s North-West, where armed groups have continued to pose challenges to communities and security forces.
The military has repeatedly emphasised the importance of public cooperation and timely intelligence in identifying terrorist movements, disrupting their activities and sustaining operational gains.
