Nigerian Army Clarifies Arrest of Social Media Influencer Over Alleged Incitement of Soldiers
The Nigerian Army has issued a clarification regarding the arrest of social media influencer and blogger, Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as “Justice Crack,” over allegations of incitement and misconduct involving military personnel.
In a statement released on May 2, 2026, and signed by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army said its attention was drawn to complaints by some soldiers concerning feeding and welfare issues. The concerns were reportedly shared on social media by Chidiebere.
According to the Army, the matter is currently under investigation for a potential breach of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy, as well as an alleged attempt to misinform the public. Preliminary findings, however, suggest that Chidiebere engaged the soldiers in discussions that went beyond welfare concerns, allegedly encouraging discontent within the ranks.

The statement further disclosed that some of the exchanges between the influencer and the soldiers touched on sensitive issues, including what the Army described as “subversive” conversations. It warned that efforts by civilians to influence military personnel toward acts capable of undermining discipline and cohesion pose serious risks to national security.
“Such actions have far-reaching implications on discipline and national security,” the statement noted, stressing the Army’s concern over any attempt to exploit perceived grievances among personnel.
Consequently, Chidiebere was taken into custody alongside the soldiers involved to facilitate a comprehensive investigation. While the soldiers remain in military custody, the Army confirmed that the influencer has been handed over to relevant civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Reaffirming its commitment to the rule of law, the Nigerian Army stated that it would continue to collaborate with appropriate agencies to ensure justice is served. It also emphasized that all its actions are guided by legal frameworks in the discharge of its constitutional responsibility to safeguard national sovereignty.
