COAS tasks Army Aviation to intensify operations for total defeat of terrorists, bandits

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has directed personnel of the Nigerian Army Aviation to intensify air operations aimed at the total defeat of bandits and terrorists threatening Nigeria’s security.
The COAS gave the directive on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Coordinator’s Residence and newly constructed accommodation for officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army Aviation at the Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment, Giri, Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Lt.-Gen. Shaibu described air power as a critical component of modern warfare and counter-insurgency operations, stressing that the Army Aviation Corps remains indispensable in intelligence, surveillance, troop deployment, medical evacuation, and precision strike missions.
He charged the personnel to maximise the use of available air platforms to dominate the airspace and deny terrorists and bandits freedom of movement.

“Your platforms must be used to dominate the airspace and deny bandits and terrorists freedom of action. I challenge you to ensure the total annihilation of these enemies of the state so that Nigerians can live in peace,” the COAS said.
Shaibu noted that the provision of new accommodation for Army Aviation personnel was in line with the Nigerian Army’s “Soldier First” policy, aimed at improving troops’ welfare, boosting morale, and enhancing operational effectiveness.
He urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the investment through dedication, professionalism, and decisive operational outcomes across all theatres of operation.
The Army Chief also commended the Directorate of Procurement for the timely completion of the project and reaffirmed the commitment of Army Headquarters to equipping the Aviation Corps with modern platforms and infrastructure to effectively discharge its mandate.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Coordinator of the Nigerian Army Aviation Command, Brig.-Gen. Al-Amin Ibrahim, expressed appreciation to the COAS for his leadership and commitment to personnel welfare.
He said the commissioning of the residences demonstrated the Army leadership’s resolve to strengthen the Aviation Command while advancing the transformation of the Nigerian Army into a highly professional, welfare-driven, and operationally effective force capable of addressing the country’s evolving security challenges.
